Hollow Knight Voice Testing

Not doing any fancy editing for this. This post is created for people to voice test or seek castmates for PSLs. The only rules are the following:
  1. Only Hollow Knight / Silksong characters may make top levels. If you have an original character so long as they are made for this setting, you are absolutely welcome to make a top level.
  2. Characters from other fandoms are allowed to participate but only by replying to HK characters.
  3. If things become NSFW either via dark topics, violence or smut please take it somewhere private as this is open to all and so there might be minors.
  4. OOC thread is there for introductions/plotting but not necessary. Use the post as you wish!

HELLO I am Jon and I play Relic Seeker Scrounge! Being an adult with money and no one to stop me, I decided to commission Rukafais for some icons of this lovely gremlin! Highly recommend commissioning them if you ever need drawn icons for an obscure character!

Anyway aside from Scrounge I also would love to make The Hollow Knight journal because I love it so much.

As for what I'm looking for, I'd love to play off of anyone! Currently enjoying a thread with Coco's wonderful Lace! But if I had to pick another, Hornet is always fun! And my absolute insane reach of a pick would be Relic Seeker Lemm.

It would be a battle to end all battles. A fierce debate of two passionate misanthropes that would make the battles against The Radiance and Grand Mother Silk look like a children's slap fight.

Glorious.

LOL TRUE. Scrounge is really long and has a lot of leverage. If she gets him in her clutches she could crack him like an egg.

Oh this is hilarious. HI SCROUNGE. Big walking living relic just woke up after a long age of silence and decline, what’s up, it’s clueless and could use your help.

If you’d like. :D

[personal profile] smellshistory 2025-12-29 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
GOD YES PLEASE.

It's funny to imagine that Second Sentinel would be the ONE PERSON Scrounge is actually fairly nice to. Since, you know, it's a literal living relic even beyond Lace herself.

[personal profile] coghearted 2025-12-29 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
AND it's polite!!!

I'm veeery slow these days, but would so be down to start off with a basic intro thread of these two at Bellhart at some point, if that's good with you?

[personal profile] smellshistory 2025-12-29 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't feel bad, I'm a bit slow when it comes to meme tags, too! In a game now and also taking care of other stuff. But I'd LOVE that!
coghearted: (5)

[personal profile] coghearted 2025-12-31 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Okay so actually, where do you want to do this? some kind of journal inbox thing or here? Not sure what the protocol is :o
smellshistory: (12)

[personal profile] smellshistory 2026-01-01 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
We can do it here! Unless there's a meme that interests you?

And would you like me to write up a starter? Or would you prefer to do it?
coghearted: (3)

[personal profile] coghearted 2026-01-02 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Here is fine!

I will admittedly be slow on the starter but it probably makes more sense for it to be on my end, since Senti's the one knocking on Scrounge's door?

Hello hello! I’m Banquo, here to bring in Second Sentinel. It’s more or less the only one I’ve got. I do technically have a journal for the Knight/Ghost as well but it’s very dusty and needs a hell of a revamp.

I don’t know what in particular I’m looking for, but some crunchy things I’ve hit so far is how much the sentinels were probably not told about what was going on behind the scenes of the Citadel at all, being seen as things to give orders but not information. Anything that digs into what it means to be made, not born: given directives, literally constructed as part of a set, long-lived, shut down, all that fun construct angst… Senti has a lot of parallel with a surprising number of the cast of both games, especially the Vessels and especially THK. Would also love a Hornet, Phantom, or… man idk truly anyone.

I live for drama, but I’m not against some plain good fun either. c: Senti’s probably easy enough to get along with anyway. Definition of a good faith thinker and doesn’t really judge because its view of the habits of living bugs is so distant. “Sure, I guess they do that? Whatever.”

I’m down for expanding canon scenes, going off from different endings, AUs, crossovers, “don’t worry about how they got here,” whatever. All cool with me c:

I’m admittedly pretty slow at the moment, but still game to play.

YES I never even thought about the parallels between Sentinel and the silk siblings before I tagged you, but what tasty ones they are! (They’ve even both got something of a death wish, depending on how you read the Sentinel fight.)

I would be so super down to poke at more threads, either while the Citadel was still functioning or even continuous after the one we currently have, or something else. (Seeing Bilewater? the Whiteward pit? other stuff?) :D I don’t have any specific thoughts at the moment though, just enthusiasm.

also LMAO, yeah. Senti’s got a solid Age of observing living bugs to have a good understanding of their cultures and ways, but it was definitely a long labor, and there’s always gonna be stuff it just can’t sympathize with. Like eating. Or spa baths… it’s just wet.

So much of the Pharloom faith is blatantly based off of Catholicism, so continuing in that vein and what we've been told in the game, I think Sentinel sees Silk as like, the all-granter of life, salvation, miracle, etc. etc. and the Silk-children are almost pretty much living proof of that. Maybe almost Christ-like in the sense that the existence of their life is an unorthodox miracle, and divine above the rest. Sentinel knows that the silk siblings are made things, inorganic, but doesn't see them as any less alive and feeling than organic bugs.

(Of course, Lace has recently poked some holes in its view of Silk. Oh well. Notably it's prioritizing the viewpoint and experiences of Lace in front of it rather than the ruling maker high above, even as an all-important deity... something only possible having seen the catastrophic failure of the Citadel as a whole, though. It trusts Lace and is also SO confused about what happened while it was gone.)

As for the Sentinels... The Twelfth Architect says this of them: A gleaming order, clockwork sentinels, so impressive-majestic in function they were charged-b-b-bound to the highest holy duty. Long before the c-c-creation of the core, the sentinels ventured, even beyond these walls, to see all bugs brought-forced safe to serve the Citadel.

It seems to me like they were originally created as a flex of skill to be as lifelike as possible (hence their very broad emotional capacity, among other things) before almost immediately being used as an elite task force used to escort pilgrims safely to the Citadel, during its early stages when the Weavers were trying to gather as many bugs as possible. Probably also used subjugate the lands that they decided to conquer. (oops.) Like a group of extremely chivalric Green Berets, I think that for the most part they were seen as and treated as a group and never really a solo entity. The sentinels think of themselves as such as well. For the purposes of most Citadel bugs it hardly ever mattered which one you were talking to in specific. I can see individual sentinels occasionally being pulled aside for miscellaneous tasks that require someone strong, fast, and pointy, though.

hi senti! i'd love to play with you...! i was meaning to reach out but got caught up in a few things. i'm pretty interested in your idea of 'has no idea what is going on behind the scenes of the citadel'...i'd love to play that after the true ending especially if you're up for it! i think hornet still has a lot to process herself, haha...i'm also down to bounce around on random memes.

HI yes i'd love to as well! All of that sounds good to me; post-true ending is a great place to jump off of, pretty much all of my threads so far have been that haha.

Did you have any ideas for how to go about that or shall we brainstorm?

[personal profile] threadstorm 2026-01-23 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I think Hornet is probably checking up on old friends after...all that, so she can come find Senti somewhere they'd be found, if you have a suggestion. Doesn't necessarily have to be any of their ingame locations if they've gone wandering. Alternatively, they can visit her at Bellhart!

ok so sorry to get back to do so many days later, i Freakin Died but!!! yes that would be lovely! I wrote in a thread with the Lace [profile] threadsbared that after the quakes settled it would start scouring Pharloom's length looking for supplies to keep the remaining pilgrims up in the Citadel going, so that's an easy thing to jump from. Especially since it's finding a lot has changed since it was last awake.

Location is up to you; Greymoor was the starting place for that one, so maybe somewhere else. Vaults? Far Fields? Moss Grotto with its old abandoned towns?

hi! i'm spider (yes that is my actual handle) and i just have Hornet here...!!! i'm open to absolutely anyone from canon and fandom OCs as well! i'm really invested in my ship right now and not really looking for any others but i'm very much open to anything gen/platonic/family/antagonistic etc.

ideas/themes i'm super interested in particularly -

- knight/fantasy AUs
- any kind of gore, body horror or violence
- hornet getting to hang out with her siblings and actually be semi-normal for once (or not normal. let's show sis weird void stuff)
- expanding on the aftermath of any of the endings (of either game) or revisiting/expanding canon events
- hornet having to come to terms with what the weavers left behind and their legacy, both good and bad
- i particularly love writing miscellaneous meme chit chat and stuff involving the weather. it's easy and fun and a good way to get stuff flowing

some important info about me -

- i am not new to DWRP, but i no longer use plurk and am not particularly social here anymore. this is not for any negative reason, just me being a massive introvert and controlling my time more wisely than i have in the past. i am always happy to talk over DM and if things go well we can exchange discords!
- i love plotting, AUs and am pretty receptive to the vast majority of ideas so please don't be afraid to throw anything my way
- i'm EST and i tag fast on all days. i do work full time but i tag on the clock if i get a chance (lol...)
- with that being said, i am disabled and suffer from more than one chronic condition that causes me pain, so at times i may slow down or take a few days off

ok...reply or shoot me a message ^_^ i also have an inbox/open post that you can post in any time, no need to ask.

So aside from Scrounge here I also have plans to make a journal for The Hollow Knight. Big fan of sibling fun times, so I'd be more than happy to thread that out as long as you don't mind me voice testing.

As for my main girl Scrounge, I'm drawing a blank right now on ideas but I know I want to thread out her and Hornet. Drag this shut-in out of her home kicking and screaming.

WAHHH I'd be delighted to play with THK! and of course. voice testing is always a-OK with me!

I wonder if Hornet could drag Scrounge out and take her to see an old Weaver artifact that's too big for her to carry??

GREAT I don't often play characters who don't speak, but I love that little blorbo so it's worth the struggle. It's such a good bean...

Also 100% tbh. She'll piss and moan for most of journey, but I think she'll enjoy being out in the field. I head canon that she used to do it a lot in her younger days, but as her collection and funds grew she opted to stay in Bellhart and protect it.

[ The orderly grace with which the Citadel moves, its bugs and its machines and its rituals all, means that disarray is easy to pick out—even more so when the bug running frantically about is no bug at all. She's a flicker of pale light against the Citadel's grey polished stone. She could be mistaken so easily for Phantom if not for how different some parts of her were. For one thing, there was no white mask.

Is there a second silken child? That would be miracle beyond miracle. A sibling for the loneliest of them all.

The sentinel's gaze tracks her for a while. It becomes very, very clear that this one is not merely late to something and is, in fact, very, very lost, worse than a newly arrived pilgrim. The task becomes clear.

The sentinel leaves its patrol route to approach, and bows.
]

In need, do you seem. Assist, will this s-s-sentinel, if it is desired.
coghearted: (13)

[personal profile] coghearted 2026-01-14 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ "Sibling." That can only mean Phantom. This close, it can make out the threads of her body. Did the sentinels miss an announcement? How is this the first time they're hearing about a second child? ]

Aware, this sentinel is not. Tracking, is it c-c-capable of.

[ Its voice is steady and even—monotonous, by all accounts, and yet that evenness reads less like cold and unfeeling austerity, and more like... confidence. Perfectly calibrated temperament. A hundred lifetimes of offering the comfort of security.

A marvel of mimicking life, truly.

The sentinel's gaze drifts down just slightly, noting the untrained grip on her pin. Hm...

for scrounge @smellshistory

[personal profile] coghearted 2026-01-06 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot to do after the black quakes cease and the dust settles. The pilgrims in the Songclave need someone like the sentinel to make sure they survive, that their needs are looked after, especially having made the climb to their holy reward. Food. Water. Medicine. Clothes. Weapons. It's a long list of things to provide. The Caretaker can lead them, but so many of the deliverybugs are gone, and no one else is as capable as it at traversing this dangerous land to provide.

The problem is, the land has changed greatly since it was last awake. Pharloom is nearly unrecognizable now. Where it's meant to find all of those things is still unknown; at every turn it's reminded just how long it's been and how much it's missed.

It's...

...

The hunter in red, when it finally found her again, pointed it towards Bellhart. If it's history you seek, that town has one far better suited to teach it than I. A relic-seeker, kin of the holy Vaultkeepers. It's a good place to start.

On Scrounge's door is a metallic knock, knock, knock.

SORRY THIS TOOK FOREVER i'm in a game now and also Life

[personal profile] smellshistory 2026-01-16 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hearing a knock on the door is a strange occurrence for Relic Seeker Scrounge. Very few people ever seek her out willingly, and those that do often just barge right in. Not that she really cares much, since it's usually Hornet and that one always provides her with tasty morsels of history. Still, this does not seem to be her. What a curious position the relic seeker finds herself in. Especially since the smell of history is heavy in the air even through the door.

"What?" she calls out, her gravelly voice booming from behind the door. "What, what? What is it? What do you want? What do you have?"
coghearted: (10)

NO WORRIES i'm the same, i feel ya!

[personal profile] coghearted 2026-01-19 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Nothing to p-p-provide, has this sentinel," echoes a tinny, mellow voice, as though through a long metal channel. But—no, even then, something about it is just a little too off from the intonation of most bugs. Of beasts, even.

"Instead, it would seek the knowledge held by the keeper of relics."
smellshistory: (04)

[personal profile] smellshistory 2026-01-24 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hold on a tick. That voice...she has not heard it specifically, but her guest's manner of speaking is not unlike the Citadel's automatons. Has she heard something like it before? Or merely heard of it? It's difficult to recall at the moment, but it's clear that this is no dullard resident of Bellhart or dreary pilgrim seeking refuge from the current state of Pharloom. Many have had their lives uprooted by the disaster, were they lucky to keep them at all. But not Scrounge. She is as she always has been. Though that mention of being a sentinel...could it be? On the rare moments when she has chosen to leave her home for one reason or another, she's heard the masses speaking of something similar. A golden savior carving away those who would threaten the denizens of Pharloom.

A rare opportunity presents itself here.

"It would, would it?" her tone is noticeably more relaxed. Her voice remains loud, but only enough to pierce through the closed door. "Then it's come to the right place. Enter, the door's unlocked. Hurry! Let me have a look at you."
coghearted: (12)

im so sorry i Freakin Died

[personal profile] coghearted 2026-02-10 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
The door swings open. The figure has to duck to step through, so tall and gallant is the gilded knight, its limbs and joints clicking the mechanisms inside of a rosary stringer.

It enters, and it bows, crossing two gleaming scissor-blades across its chest, elegant and asymmetric in form. The whole of its shell is chipped, scratched, and worn. Recent damage—likely from the restless black dead.

"Presented, is this s-s-sentinel. Its shell, it offers for inspection."
smellshistory: (10)

it's ok! i also died

[personal profile] smellshistory 2026-02-26 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if Scrounge was more than confident that the guest who had approached her home was an automaton, there really is something to be said for seeing it in all of its glory. Her eyes widen and her voice grows quiet. All she can do is stare and marvel at the sight before her. She inches cautiously forward at first, and then within seconds she is upon the Second Sentinel, head out in front, to excitedly perform the inspection. Oh what a joyous day this is! Why, she feels like a young larvae again.

"Fascinating." she says, giving it some space as her body coils to and fro, inspecting it further. "Expertly-crafted. Good working condition, though not without wearing. No doubt thanks to those outside, yes?" she shakes her head. "No respect for history found by them outside. Living or dead? Ensnared or otherwise? Pah! Doesn't matter."

And it really is a shame. But alas, it is what it is. Having satiated her curiosity for the moment, and I do mean the moment, she pulls back a smidge. "You mentioned seeking my knowledge, yes? What for? To repair your shell? Proper maintenance? Something else? Speak plainly."
