Hollow Knight Voice Testing
Not doing any fancy editing for this. This post is created for people to voice test or seek castmates for PSLs. The only rules are the following:
- Only Hollow Knight / Silksong characters may make top levels. If you have an original character so long as they are made for this setting, you are absolutely welcome to make a top level.
- Characters from other fandoms are allowed to participate but only by replying to HK characters.
- If things become NSFW either via dark topics, violence or smut please take it somewhere private as this is open to all and so there might be minors.
- OOC thread is there for introductions/plotting but not necessary. Use the post as you wish!

I am so happy and excited to play with anyone both castmates and crossover. In particular I would love a Phantom to play sibling time and plot out backstory. In terms of crossovers in particular I'd like other spiders or people who are interested in constructs/golems/dolls or have magic to control fabric or string. In more positive ways she could really use some friends but they would need to be incredibly patient people since she can be an asshole lol.
I'm down for playing and expanding canon scenes, playing from any ending, and AUs!

Anyway aside from Scrounge I also would love to make The Hollow Knight journal because I love it so much.
As for what I'm looking for, I'd love to play off of anyone! Currently enjoying a thread with Coco's wonderful Lace! But if I had to pick another, Hornet is always fun! And my absolute insane reach of a pick would be Relic Seeker Lemm.

It's funny to imagine that Second Sentinel would be the ONE PERSON Scrounge is actually fairly nice to. Since, you know, it's a literal living relic even beyond Lace herself.

I'm veeery slow these days, but would so be down to start off with a basic intro thread of these two at Bellhart at some point, if that's good with you?

And would you like me to write up a starter? Or would you prefer to do it?

I will admittedly be slow on the starter but it probably makes more sense for it to be on my end, since Senti's the one knocking on Scrounge's door?

I don’t know what in particular I’m looking for, but some crunchy things I’ve hit so far is how much the sentinels were probably not told about what was going on behind the scenes of the Citadel at all, being seen as things to give orders but not information. Anything that digs into what it means to be made, not born: given directives, literally constructed as part of a set, long-lived, shut down, all that fun construct angst… Senti has a lot of parallel with a surprising number of the cast of both games, especially the Vessels and especially THK. Would also love a Hornet, Phantom, or… man idk truly anyone.
I live for drama, but I’m not against some plain good fun either. c: Senti’s probably easy enough to get along with anyway. Definition of a good faith thinker and doesn’t really judge because its view of the habits of living bugs is so distant. “Sure, I guess they do that? Whatever.”
I’m down for expanding canon scenes, going off from different endings, AUs, crossovers, “don’t worry about how they got here,” whatever. All cool with me c:
I’m admittedly pretty slow at the moment, but still game to play.

Also you mentioning Second would not be judgmental of bugs put the funny image of Lace just elbowing them and pointing at some bugs doing some innocuous thing organic creatures do like eating and being all "check it out golden one, how revolting!"

I would be so super down to poke at more threads, either while the Citadel was still functioning or even continuous after the one we currently have, or something else. (Seeing Bilewater? the Whiteward pit? other stuff?) :D I don’t have any specific thoughts at the moment though, just enthusiasm.
also LMAO, yeah. Senti’s got a solid Age of observing living bugs to have a good understanding of their cultures and ways, but it was definitely a long labor, and there’s always gonna be stuff it just can’t sympathize with. Like eating. Or spa baths… it’s just wet.

I've got some vague pre-game ideas but I think a lot depends on the role you see as the sentinels having been given. I'm curious as to how you see the faith being played out, what they were told about Silk and the siblings, and how that was carried out by the pilgrims. With Second in particular did it any specific role or was it shared by all the sentinels?

(Of course, Lace has recently poked some holes in its view of Silk. Oh well. Notably it's prioritizing the viewpoint and experiences of Lace in front of it rather than the ruling maker high above, even as an all-important deity... something only possible having seen the catastrophic failure of the Citadel as a whole, though. It trusts Lace and is also SO confused about what happened while it was gone.)
As for the Sentinels... The Twelfth Architect says this of them: A gleaming order, clockwork sentinels, so impressive-majestic in function they were charged-b-b-bound to the highest holy duty. Long before the c-c-creation of the core, the sentinels ventured, even beyond these walls, to see all bugs brought-forced safe to serve the Citadel.
It seems to me like they were originally created as a flex of skill to be as lifelike as possible (hence their very broad emotional capacity, among other things) before almost immediately being used as an elite task force used to escort pilgrims safely to the Citadel, during its early stages when the Weavers were trying to gather as many bugs as possible. Probably also used subjugate the lands that they decided to conquer. (oops.) Like a group of extremely chivalric Green Berets, I think that for the most part they were seen as and treated as a group and never really a solo entity. The sentinels think of themselves as such as well. For the purposes of most Citadel bugs it hardly ever mattered which one you were talking to in specific. I can see individual sentinels occasionally being pulled aside for miscellaneous tasks that require someone strong, fast, and pointy, though.

That all makes a lot of sense.
Running with that then they could conceivably have met before. I HC that GMS did not create Lace with the intention of being a fighter. Her Needolin dialogue seems to imply she takes pride in being a knight so I like to run with the idea that picking up the pin was one of the few things she was allowed to choose for herself (after a lot of asking).
She was stuck in the Cradle for the majority of her life before then so maybe we can do something where Phantom takes her down to see the rest of the citadel for the first time, but Lace wanders off and comes across Sentinel?

Sounds perfect. c: I can start if you like, though you’ll be waiting on me for a while in that case.

Location is up to you; Greymoor was the starting place for that one, so maybe somewhere else. Vaults? Far Fields? Moss Grotto with its old abandoned towns?

ideas/themes i'm super interested in particularly -
- knight/fantasy AUs
- any kind of gore, body horror or violence
- hornet getting to hang out with her siblings and actually be semi-normal for once (or not normal. let's show sis weird void stuff)
- expanding on the aftermath of any of the endings (of either game) or revisiting/expanding canon events
- hornet having to come to terms with what the weavers left behind and their legacy, both good and bad
- i particularly love writing miscellaneous meme chit chat and stuff involving the weather. it's easy and fun and a good way to get stuff flowing
some important info about me -
- i am not new to DWRP, but i no longer use plurk and am not particularly social here anymore. this is not for any negative reason, just me being a massive introvert and controlling my time more wisely than i have in the past. i am always happy to talk over DM and if things go well we can exchange discords!
- i love plotting, AUs and am pretty receptive to the vast majority of ideas so please don't be afraid to throw anything my way
- i'm EST and i tag fast on all days. i do work full time but i tag on the clock if i get a chance (lol...)
- with that being said, i am disabled and suffer from more than one chronic condition that causes me pain, so at times i may slow down or take a few days off
ok...reply or shoot me a message ^_^ i also have an inbox/open post that you can post in any time, no need to ask.

As for my main girl Scrounge, I'm drawing a blank right now on ideas but I know I want to thread out her and Hornet. Drag this shut-in out of her home kicking and screaming.
no subject
I wonder if Hornet could drag Scrounge out and take her to see an old Weaver artifact that's too big for her to carry??
no subject
Also 100% tbh. She'll piss and moan for most of journey, but I think she'll enjoy being out in the field. I head canon that she used to do it a lot in her younger days, but as her collection and funds grew she opted to stay in Bellhart and protect it.

Lace has no doubt that it is in large part thanks to Phantom, that their Mother finally relented and allowed her to venture outside of the Cradle. The world beyond that garden she only knew about thanks to the stories she had been told and finally seeing it with her own eyes was overwhelming. The color, the majesty, the noise.
It was exhilarating, frightening, fascinating, wondrous---fantastic as Phantom had been at weaving the stories and descriptions without even any manner of basis of what the outside world was like, Lace couldn't have been prepared.
That was probably why it made it hard for her not to be enraptured. Lace didn't even realize that Phantom had become distracted talking to someone else when she began to follow behind a line of citadel bugs as if in a trance, their staves and hands raised as they sang, intricate robes trailing behind them.
People. There were other people. They really existed. It was not just her, her Mother and Phantom. For a long time no one noticed the silk creature following behind them till they came to a room where it seemed their ritual was to end. All turned around and then froze upon seeing her, and she did the same.
Ah.
Hmm. Nope.
For a moment her hand instinctively went to her pin, a tool only recently given to her and which she had yet to be given any proper training in, before she caught herself and instead turned around to race off. Oh. Oh. Where was Phantom? This was bad. She was supposed to stick near them. What if she caused trouble? Would Mother revoke this privilege?
Lace had been too distracted by the singers to pay attention the route they had taken was now scampering around, lost.]

Is there a second silken child? That would be miracle beyond miracle. A sibling for the loneliest of them all.
The sentinel's gaze tracks her for a while. It becomes very, very clear that this one is not merely late to something and is, in fact, very, very lost, worse than a newly arrived pilgrim. The task becomes clear.
The sentinel leaves its patrol route to approach, and bows. ]
In need, do you seem. Assist, will this s-s-sentinel, if it is desired.
no subject
When it bows she's taken back and unsure of what to do or say. It is her first time interacting with anyone other than her mother or Phantom and she's at a loss to what to say or do. When it speaks, however, the question of why they look so different is answered.
Phantom had told her about the sentinels. They are constructs, more similar to them than the average bug, and creations of great prowess. Indeed, they'd always spoken highly of them.]
...do you know where my sis---sibling is?
no subject
Aware, this sentinel is not. Tracking, is it c-c-capable of.
[ Its voice is steady and even—monotonous, by all accounts, and yet that evenness reads less like cold and unfeeling austerity, and more like... confidence. Perfectly calibrated temperament. A hundred lifetimes of offering the comfort of security.
A marvel of mimicking life, truly.
The sentinel's gaze drifts down just slightly, noting the untrained grip on her pin. Hm... ]
no subject
She draws herself up, trying to appear stately and gives a nod.]
Then. Yes. Take me to them.
[She was staring and quite intently. Now having overcome her initial surprise she's brimming with curiosity]
for scrounge @smellshistory
The problem is, the land has changed greatly since it was last awake. Pharloom is nearly unrecognizable now. Where it's meant to find all of those things is still unknown; at every turn it's reminded just how long it's been and how much it's missed.
It's...
...
The hunter in red, when it finally found her again, pointed it towards Bellhart. If it's history you seek, that town has one far better suited to teach it than I. A relic-seeker, kin of the holy Vaultkeepers. It's a good place to start.
On Scrounge's door is a metallic knock, knock, knock.
SORRY THIS TOOK FOREVER i'm in a game now and also Life
"What?" she calls out, her gravelly voice booming from behind the door. "What, what? What is it? What do you want? What do you have?"
NO WORRIES i'm the same, i feel ya!
"Instead, it would seek the knowledge held by the keeper of relics."
no subject
A rare opportunity presents itself here.
"It would, would it?" her tone is noticeably more relaxed. Her voice remains loud, but only enough to pierce through the closed door. "Then it's come to the right place. Enter, the door's unlocked. Hurry! Let me have a look at you."
im so sorry i Freakin Died
It enters, and it bows, crossing two gleaming scissor-blades across its chest, elegant and asymmetric in form. The whole of its shell is chipped, scratched, and worn. Recent damage—likely from the restless black dead.
"Presented, is this s-s-sentinel. Its shell, it offers for inspection."
it's ok! i also died
"Fascinating." she says, giving it some space as her body coils to and fro, inspecting it further. "Expertly-crafted. Good working condition, though not without wearing. No doubt thanks to those outside, yes?" she shakes her head. "No respect for history found by them outside. Living or dead? Ensnared or otherwise? Pah! Doesn't matter."
And it really is a shame. But alas, it is what it is. Having satiated her curiosity for the moment, and I do mean the moment, she pulls back a smidge. "You mentioned seeking my knowledge, yes? What for? To repair your shell? Proper maintenance? Something else? Speak plainly."
@weavered
She blinks, then abruptly stands up.
What was the meaning of this?
Lace had only ever been here once before when curiosity had overtaken her, and she had quickly left it. The Slab was a filthy, horrid place and while she held pity by all those trapped there--prisoner and guard alike--she would have happily never set foot in the place again. Memories return to her of her and the spider dueling once more only to be ambushed by some Wardens.
"...imbeciles. Utter imbeciles." At this point, this long stuck in such a soul crushing place it was no wonder the guards minds were addled and they just took whoever they came across.
When she got her hands on them.....
Sadly that threat will have to wait for some time. Lace is without uniform or pin and unfortunately she isn't much of a combatant without a weapon. Her eyes drifted over to the still unconscious spider.
"Wake up, spider." She snapped.
