could just be an allegiance thing with no conflict going on, but we can definitely talk about long term stuff.
open to people she has had established relationships with.
pretty straight forward. pretty much the same as canon--she'd be a familiar to any sort of magic user or supernatural creature. could be that she broke her contract with chlomaki or was never with her to begin with.
Despite all the mayhem she'd been through, Konoka had finally come home.
It wasn't just coming back cleanly into her old life though. While far less time had passed here on Earth than it did in Prismatica, it had still skipped at least a week. She had woken up on the eve of their trip to the asteroid belt, where they would be dealing with the Lifemaker. Konoka's Iris blessing seemed to still be around, shown via her pitch black, violet-tipped hair.
And she had not come back alone.
Everyone was overjoyed that Konoka had 'woken up' just in time, giving her several tastes of her own medicine via fierce hugs and a barrage of questions. Some were slightly suspicious of the new friend, currently a tiny shrimp on her shoulder, but none of it really lingered. 3-A was pretty welcoming to Lobco, and just happy to have their resident healer back.
The actual trip and battle proved to be a relative blur. When most of the class got there, Negi was already deep in the middle of battle, and actually at disadvantage... but fortunately the class had helped him save the day. The dark mage who had spent thousands of years attempting to create a forced paradise eventually met their end, and thanks to Konoka, they managed to save Negi's father, who had been the latest person to be possessed.
So, by the time that they're home again, home being Konoka's shared but spacious dorm, Konoka had all but collapsed on the bed. "Whew! All of that was enough excitement for at least two years. I'm ready to just take a break." She turned to Lobco, who'd been by her side as much as Setsuna had. "Are you okay? I think all the big stuff is over for now. At least I hope!"
Home was not a place Lobco could return to, but Prisma had shown her a kindness and given her another one in the form of all the kind people that she had met and come to know. One of them was Konoka and it was after a lot of thought and weighing of all the options presented to her, that Lobco had asked her if she could return with her to her world. There she could have a future, and could have someone that she trusted, cared for, and felt comfortable with.
It was...perhaps not the best time to enter this world on the verge of a great catastrophe but there wasn't really much of a say in the matter. Lobco feared the gateways closing at any moment, given how nebulous the forces of Prismatica were, and more than that she wanted to be there for Konoka.
It was uncomfortable at first but Lobco did not blame any of Konoka's friends in the slightest for being dubious of her in the beginning, and surprised when they finally accepted her. Even after all this time she was still just so surprised by...friendliness. Pure, simple, honest kindness.
All that said she was glad to be somewhere quiet. She nodded at Konoka's question.
"That was...a lot. Even after everything that happened back in Prismatica is was a lot." Especially when you considered that everything here was more severe. Scary as many of the situations in Prismatica were, death was never something permanent and Chroma seemed to heal all. There had always been comfort in that which made it easier to not panic.
"But yes, I'm ok. What about you? You did so much."
"You know, I'm okay! It's just been a lot, between the big fights on Prismatica AND earth. I think I just want a biiiig vacation, even if I technically just got back from one." Two big "fate of the world" fights in a row would be enough to tire anyone out. But it had been a sufficient distraction from some of the other things that were now poking at her mind.
"Lobco-han," Konoka said after a while. "I actually still have a lot on my plate. My time on Lunatia has... changed my view on things. And since you're here, I want to do right by you. Now that you're here with me, what do you want to do? How do you see... us?"
Konoka more than well deserved it. Lobco met the comment of needing a vacation with a bright smile that she bit her lip to try and subdue--though it naturally did so at the more serious tone that Konoka took. She listened to what her companion said attentively and found herself a bit surprised by the direction it had taken.
How did she see them?
That was a good question. While it was true that Lobco wanted to avoid returning to her world for a number of reasons, she could have easily settled in Lunatia. She was regarded as a Prismal now, seen as a hero as all the Moonblessed were. She had a home, a steady job, and many opportunities. Yet...
"I. I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that I wanted to stay by your side. Even with the gateways open I knew I would miss you too much. As far as labels go I don't know what I'd ascribe us as but I do know that you are very important to me and that I love you."
Konoka felt her lips upturn into a soft smile, despite Lobco's answer... or was it because of it? Either way, she had no answer, and honestly, that could have been expected. Lobco may have made the decision to ditch her world entirely, but she also made the decision to leave the world that had been the most merciful to her, just to follow Konoka. And a definition of love that, while not clear, she knows is strong.
Reminded her of a certain someone she knows.
"We'll figure it out!" Konoka said easily. "Either way though, I want to let Secchan know. She's a person I've known for a very long time." God, she missed Setsuna. Practically buried herself on the girl's back the entire way up to the asteroid belt. "But my feelings for you are strong, too. You're probably the only one who'd believe me about half the stuff we experienced in Prisma, and that's with all the weird stuff that happens here too." Is she rambling now? Konoka might be more mentally done than she thought, but she didn't want to forget about all these thoughts either.
While the time spent in Prismatica had been comparatively short to the rest of their lives, it had been very significant and Lobco knew very well the relief that came with having someone who knew what it had all been like.
Setsuna was someone that Lobco had heard about quite a bit and she could understand what Konoka meant by that.
"I understand. I don't want to make things difficult for the two of you in anyway." She hoped that Setsuna would accept her but she knew that humans by and large were more monogamous than animal folk. Even before coming to Prismatica the idea of open relationships had hardly been unusual for her, but she force her values on others.
"Let me know how that all goes....do you think it would help if I were there, or no?"
Konoka gave her an easy answer. "I think it would help." Lobco was right in that humans here leaned more monogamous. Polygamy was not unheard of, however, and Konoka had never been against it. But she wasn't sure of Setsuna just yet...
But even aside from that, she wanted to give Lobco a helping hand, to find a spot she belonged to on this world. "Well, alongside that, I want to help you find a place in this world. You mentioned that you were a familiar to someone back at home, right?"
Lobco wanted very hard to not make Setsuna feel like she meant to 'steal' Konoka away. Laying her cards out all on the table and the three of them discussing this together would be the best way to avoid any illusions of what everyone wanted out of this situation. Lobco may not have much in the way of experience when it came to romance but one thing she knew for certain was that communication was one of the most important things to maintaining a healthy relationship, romantic or otherwise.
Granted, she wasn't entirely sure what she wanted just yet, but that in itself was important to make known.
"I did. A witch named Chlomaki but I nullified our contract while in Prismatica." A part of her considered returning to Pitch if only for a single day to make it proper and give Chlomaki an actual resignation instead of just disappearing but it was probably for the best she not do that either. In all honesty, she really didn't feel much guilt over it.
"I appreciate that. It'll take some time to adjust. It's not quite like Prismatica, is it?"
The good news was that Konoka felt pretty similarly to Lobco about communication. She might not ever figure things out on her lonesome if she cooped things up. Setsuna had been... a work in progress when they were younger, but she's better about her feelings now!
"Not at all," Konoka answered her question. "Magic is currently still an unknown in the wider circle of things. I think Negi-kun was getting some of us involved in talks about finding a safe way to expose magic to the world. That's gonna be some years off though." They didn't want a repeat of the Chao situation they had a few years ago.
Konoka hadn't been there when Lobco had made the final decision, but she did know she'd been moving towards it. "Well, until and unless you find something more to your liking, maybe you could work as my familiar?" Konoka made herself mentally promise that she'd treat Lobco with more respect that Chlomaki apparently had, from what she'd heard about her.
Lobco's eyes went a little wide and her antennas perked up. Her heart soared at that question. Familiarhood was something very important to Lobco. She had always loved and been fascinated by magic, and she had always wanted to one day become a witch herself. Familiarhood in itself was in a way even more appealing for the trust and connections it fostered, as well as the happiness that came from being someone another could depend on.
She hadn't found what she had wanted with Chlomaki. There was no sense of kinship...of family there.
But with Konoka? It already was and this would only make it stronger.
Lobco's glow was positively infectious. Konoka lit up upon seeing her agree readily.
"Great!" Konoka pumped her fist. "I always wanted a cool familiar like Negi-kun! And way less inappropriately perverted to boot!" Any questions Lobco might have about that line might be interrupted, however, as she had to pause. "Though I dunno if there's any formal ceremony to it though. Just might be paperwork. I'll have to ask Chamo-kun..."
However, she quickly went back to her cheerful self. "But I'm looking forward to what we can do together, regardless of how it works!"
Lobco was ecstatic. She'd show Konoka that she could be a great a familiar as Negi---wait what? Before that comment had even fully processed Konoka was already moving the conversation along leaving Lobco feeling a little flummoxed.
"Oh, uh. Right!" Well. She was fine with not going into further detail about that. While she had certainly become a little less scared of intimacy while in Lunatia, that didn't changed that she wasn't much for vulgarity. Hopefully it wasn't anything too serious but she supposed she would learn in due time.
"As do I. Familiar contracts back home were pretty flexible. I'm not sure if the magic of your world allows them to be formed in the same way, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try?"
Having never seen much of the magic Lobco used at home, Konoka's curiosity--and excitement--were piqued.
"It won't hurt at all! I'd love to try it!" Konoka tried not to (and failed) bounce in excitement, but her enthusiasm was palpable anyway. "What do we need, either space-wise or magic-wise?"
That was a good question. Lobco had only participated in a binding ceremony once; but she was fortunate to see two others that let her know this was very much a personal sort of magic. With her and Chlomaki it had been incredibly formal, and in retrospect Lobco was certain that had all been for her benefit.
One she had seen between Wadanohara and Dolphi had been as simple asking a question and then shaking hands. The other, between Tetsuzora and Merol had been a bizarre series of swapping components that quite frankly she did not understand in the slightest, having been utterly tech illiterate back then.
"Hmm." which meant that no, they did not need anything in particular. It could be as big or as small an affair as they wanted. With that in mind, an idea formulated in Lobco's mind.
"Let's plan to go to the beach--are there any places you know where it's relatively private?"
Konoka looked thoughtful at that question. "Last time I went to the beach, it was with one of my classmates who had their own private beachfront. They'd... probably give it to us if we asked." Ayaka was a very giving sort of person, and that hadn't changed even as she had picked up awareness of the bigger magical world.
"I can do all the arrangin', so don't worry over it," Konoka gave a reassuring smile. "You just make sure we can approach this ceremony however you want."
"As long as it's not too much trouble." Her home world was do big and wild that it was fairly easy to find some private beach areas. Things seemed a little more complicated here from what she had learned.
Yet if Konoka said not to worry about it, Lobco wouldn't.
"Of course!" Konoka pumped her fists. "It'll just be us and Secchan, so take what you need! It'll be nice to see the beach again on my home world!"
And so, Konoka began making the necessary arrangements to set aside their mini-vacation, getting in contact with Ayaka and getting her permission to hold their small space. Discretion mattered, because if 3-A caught wind of it not only would the rumors never stop, a good third of the class would snoop in on them! Fortunately, no one she didn't want to know caught on to where she and her partners were going.
The beach villa was almost as pristine as she remembered it, since the last time Ayaka invited them there five plus years ago. The pavilion that stretched past the beach line was just as nice as it had been back then. She smiled at Lobco. "It's nice bein' back. You like it?"
Perhaps Lobco was a bit conceited in this regard, but she often found the 'public beaches' of land dwellers to be...well. It left a little to be desired. She was happy that they enjoyed it, and would rather that than the alternative of complete segregation buuut. Well, needless to say, the times she had seen it she usually had to do some cleaning up.
This was entirely different. She supposed that was to be expected of somewhere more private. Konoka's friend certainly kept this place in tip top shape.
"It's wonderful," She beamed brightly at her companions, "thank you for arranging this all." The sun was shining, the sand was bright, the waters a lush sapphire, and the pavilion warm to her feet. She breathed in deeply of the salt air before letting out a happy sigh. Whether on her home world or another, the sea was always reassuring.
"Should we get started? On wind down a little first?"
"You're welcome!" Konoka chirped. It had been a little tricky getting things worked out, especially in a way that wouldn't get Ayaka's curiosity piqued, but Konoka DID disappear from the world for several weeks, experienced almost two years away from everyone, and came back a changed woman with an additional friend. That had been enough for Ayaka to respect her.
Setsuna decided to take a seat in one of the chairs in the pavilion. For now, she was staying to the pavilion.
"I'm actually a little anxious and want to see what you have prepared, Lobco-han," Konoka answered. "We have some time to enjoy the beach for ourselves afterward!"
Lobco took another look out at the beautiful beach spread before them. It was hard not to. She could spend an entire day just seated back, looking out at it, letting memories of home wash over her. For all her time among demons, humans, insects and fae she was still a sea creature at heart.
But she could enjoy that luxury tomorrow or some other day. Right now it was time to make official something that she had wanted to for a long time.
She looked between Konoka and Setsuna, supremely grateful towards both women. Grateful to Konoka for having been there for her while they were in Lunatia. Grateful that she showed her the kindness and patience that let her trust again. Grateful to Setsuna for showing her no hostility for coming to this world as a partner of Konoka's, and welcoming them into their family.
"There's nothing to be anxious about, Konoka. This is something that we do together, there is no right or wrong way for it to go. I do have some things I'd like to set up but at the end of it all how you want to go about it matters just as much."
After everything Konoka had done to go about getting this beach reserved for them, Lobco wanted to put her effort in as well!
"I'll go get started, so you feel free to relax, ok? Just give me about two hours."
"You're right!" Konoka chirped. "It might be more accurate to say I'm excited."
But Konoka gave a firm nod toward Lobco. "Sure thing!" And she'd leave her to the preparations, rejoining Setsuna on the gazebo. She might have been mentally 'gone' for two years, but she just had an easier time catching up with Setsuna compared to everyone else. It might be why it didn't take long for Setsuna to accept Lobco, and even account for Konoka's increased libido.
[It's another busy day in town, with the market district bustling with business as usual. But today, there's a show with your shopping, as a young woman has taken up a little corner of the street for a one-woman circus act. She may not exactly have a hat to pass, but the ceramic bowl off in the corner of her little performance space will do as she performs for the passers-by. Juggling, tumbles, flips, sleight of hand magic, even some impressive, almost dance-like forms with a long staff she carried around her shoulders. It prompted a few coins from people in too much of a hurry to watch, mostly, but there was a small handful of little children sitting up front, enraptured as their parents perused the nearby jeweler's stand. At the moment, the street acrobat is performing a rather tricky-looking stunt of balancing the tip of her staff on her forehead.]
[Lobco was headed back to the inn she was staying for the night, bag of rations in hands when she caught sight of the performance. Since she began her travels from her home in the south pole towards the Kingdom of Ba Sing Se she had come to see and experience many things she never had before.
Her tiny village didn't really have much in the way of street performers--at the very least, not of this variety; so much like the children she found herself amused and she drew forth to watch.
The woman was incredibly skilled and agile, the dexterity with which she moved her hands and limbs was impressive and Lobco couldn't help but wonder what sort of training she had undergone to perform this.
She comes forward a little to drop off some change in the bowl before stepping back to continue watching.
The waterbender can't help be look on], a little anxious at the prospect of that staff falling right on her face.
idk if this is physically possible but it sounds cool so XD
[It was a rather scary stunt to watch. The children around Lobco went silent, almost as if they were afraid to breathe as the acrobat went on. The staff stabilized, but barely, and she slowly shifted her stance straight up, arms extended for balance as she slowly raised one foot off the cobblestone. Her leg wobbled slightly unsteadily, but she maintained, tucking her raised foot under her like a stork.
She held there a moment, then her stance shifted, slowly leaning to the side as she raised her leg up and outward, the staff still not moving from her head. She leaned back, stretching her leg up, practically doing a split while standing.
Then finally, her foot nudged the staff just enough to break its balance point. It wobbled, tipped, and the audience barely had time to flinch before she hooked her leg around it at lightning speed, doing a backwards somersault with the staff tucked into the crook of her knee.
On her way to her feet, she kicked the air to send the staff upwards where she caught it in her hand with ease, bouncing lightly on her feet to stick the landing and extending her arms as the children exploded into applause.]
[What on earth? Lobco stared, just as entranced as any of the children. As the other woman began to move Lobco hadn't the faintest idea what it was that she was trying to pull up. When at last she twirled through the air the waterbender was sure she was going to fall flat on her face but not only did she do it, but she twisted herself in such ways that she could catch and fling the staff about some more.]
Amazing!
[She too applauded fiercely, absolutely delighted. Oh, she was usually the sort to keep to herself, but she so dearly wanted to know where the young woman had learned such tricks she she tentatively approached her once the crowds had dispersed.]
That was incredible. Are you a part of a troupe of some sort?

After everything Konoka had done to go about getting this beach reserved for them, Lobco wanted to put her effort in as well!
"I'll go get started, so you feel free to relax, ok? Just give me about two hours."

She comes forward a little to drop off some change in the bowl before stepping back to continue watching.

idk if this is physically possible but it sounds cool so XD
