She squeezed Lace's hand back. ]
The answer is simple. I do not desire it. [ She lifted her hand and tossed a string of hair out of Lace's face. ] The need to overtake and conquer is in my very nature, and I wish not to give into it, for I have seen how this domination ends in mass tragedy and loss. Once with my own kingdom, and now with yours.

Oh.
Oops.
She hopes Hornet hadn't noticed that. It's only then that she finally lets go of Hornet's hand and sits back]
So then what do you desire? Once you had done what you can for Pharloom, what then?

My wish was to free this kingdom from its former master. I wished to see those that live here, including yourself, remain alive. And in that, I have succeeded.
I know not what will come next for me. But there is nothing for me to return to in Hallownest, my former home. I quite like it here, and there are bugs here who need protection. I shall stay in Pharloom for the time being.

If Lace were Hornet, she would have left the moment she cast her Mother down into the void, everyone else be damned.
Then again, if she were Hornet, she likely would have thrown in the towel long ago.
She flops back down on the bed, the ache in her chest now having dulled. There will be a lot to do, she imagines, in restoring Pharloom. Doubtless Hornet will get herself involved so...she supposes she should too. What else would there be to do?
Well...there is one thing she wants to do for herself, and maybe she'll get around to it tomorrow but she's a bit scared to.]
With you guarding it, it'll be well on its way to recovery.

I do hope so.
[ Curiously, she watches Lace flop back on the bed. So erratic. ]
Is that pain in your chest gone?
no subject
It is gone.
[She should probably thank her, shouldn't she?
...eh. Lace didn't ask to be healed and it's Hornet's own fault that she's now going to be burdened with her maintenance.]
...
[But she supposes the distraction from her spiraling was appreciated. She doesn't know what happened to herself there but it could have gone much worse if Hornet wasn't around.]
Thank you.

You are welcome.
[ A gift of thanks and hearing Lace call her by name all in one day. She felt warm with satisfaction. In the end, it had all been worth it. ]
...There was one more thing I wanted to ask you. When we were lost in the Abyss, there was a creature that carried us out. Do you have any memory of it?
no subject
No. I recall nothing past our battle.
[She must have fainted after her defeat for she remembers vaguely being in the throes of battle--and even that was a warped thing--and then waking up beside Hornet.]
What of it?
no subject
There was a Void creature that carried us to the end. My kin, on my father's side.
[ Hornet. You can't just drop this all at once on her. ]
I expect that does not make much sense to you. But I owe them my thanks. I would like to introduce you two someday.
