Drabble: Grimm & Lobco; bedsharing

Requested by [personal profile] hagrides

Tonight would be a night in which sleep evaded her once more. It wasn't unusual here in this world where she had no potions that would grant her a dreamless sleep, yet it took its toll on her.

Lobco had left her aquarium when it became evident that her anxiety wouldn't even allow her to get far enough to experience nightmares and settled instead on the bed that had thus far seen no use from either of this apartments occupants. What need was there? She stuck to her aquarium, surrounded by soothing waters and Grimm found comfort in being wrapped up by his wings, hanging from the ceiling.

The shrimp looked toward where he was usually nestled only to not find him there and then jumped a bit when she heard his deep voice call out to her: "Lobco?"

She quickly turn to her other side, a hand pressed to her chest to find him standing by the bedside.

"I apologize. I did not mean to startle you."

Lobco looked towards her friend and roommate standing at the side of the bed and wondering how long he had been there. She gives a faint smile and waved his apology off.

"It's okay, Grimm. No harm done. My head is just not all here."

He tilts his head to the side in an almost pensive manner--it's cute and makes Lobco smile for a moment--a smile that disappears when he asks: "Nightmares?"

There's an awkward moment in which she tries to figure out out how to say it's not quite that without admitting to the fact that it's because her mind can't even sit still from conjuring up imagined fears and self-loathing thoughts. Thankfully Grimm speaks up just as she's about to force herself.

"It's alright, friend. You don't have to tell me if you do not wish. Is there anything I can do to help?"

At first she starts to shake her head: she knows the only thing that can really be done is to simply wait out these thoughts and hope they go away soon, but then she finds herself speaking. "Will you stay here with me?"

She can tell the words surprise him, and they surprise her too as well.

"Are you certain?" There is no disdain or disgust in his tone, only concern and that touches her. Lobco simply nods and holds out her hand which Grimm gently takes while lowering himself in the bed next to her. When he opens his arm she is quick to slide into them, and when he wraps his wings around her she feels safer than she's felt in a long, long time.

"I'm not too hot, am I?" he asks as she settles her head against his chest. Again, Lobco simply shakes her head.

Grimm says that he can't make her nightmares go away, that he would only make them worse. On some level, perhaps he's right. There are no words, no magic, no spells...not a single person who could make them or her fears or her pain go away.

Yet he doesn't seem to realize how just him being him, in all his kindness, his gentleness and sincerity gives her so much hope and comfort; makes her certain that the ideals and convictions that she stuck to weren't for naught.

It means more than words could ever express and in time she finally finds herself drifting off to sleep.
